In her book My Journey Through the Cross, author Ashley D. Wille shares glimpses of her life and how she emerged stronger. She unpacks her story, allowing readers to identify with her experiences and understand the real connection between faith and healing.
God calls for people to rejoice in their weakness, for His power will rest on them (2 Corinthians 12:9).
However, in the face of severe challenges, some fail to surrender. Yet, this reluctance to embrace the possibility of healing trauma through faith in God can’t be faulted, especially with the desperation to find relief.
Faith is the greatest healer. It guides anyone to achieving inner peace and recovery, and it begins with finding God and surrendering to His might.
The Connection Between Faith and Healing
“I let my traumatized soul heal as it grows in dependence on Christ and fuses in wholeness with Christ. I do not have to be strong in myself. I do not have to “hold it together.” I do not have to do anything but believe in its fullest sense. He is my togetherness and well-being.”
– Ashley D. Wille, My Journey Through the Cross
The role of faith in healing has an established significance. Deeply interconnected, faith catalyzes divine intervention and spiritual restoration. In this sense, faith, per se, doesn’t heal. Instead, people’s faith in something bigger and the trust in someone great allows divine healing to flow.
Faith connects people to a higher power who heals as a sign of His unconditional love and the fulfillment of His promises.
However, this belief also begs a popular question: If God heals, why doesn’t He heal everyone?
God’s Healing Isn’t Always Physical
“Blow after blow, I dreaded the battle I knew I could not fight. I was falling fast and needed the Savior to reestablish for me, in the moment, my newly established reality. Knowing He was the only One Who could, in helplessness I beckoned for His hand, ‘Help me. Just help me.”

It was when she was lost in crippling pain that Ashley D. Wille found strength and healing through faith—a brave move that not many are willing to do. Yet, again, it’s not anybody’s responsibility to condemn them for hesitating, not especially when there are still a lot of people in pain and suffering.
This is often where people’s trust in God for healing is challenged.
With the belief that it’s always His will to heal, a Christian’s idea of healing is over-simplified. Thus, when they’re proven with situations that go against it, it becomes easy for them to let go of their belief.
However, it must be known that God heals in other ways beyond the physical.
How Faith Moves in Healing and Recovery
“Without the exciting love, acceptance, presence, power, and security of Christ, I would be highly unstable and miserable. Because of His work in me, I can now live in the moment, every moment, because He is there with me while redeeming the past and preparing the future.”
– Ashley D. Wille, My Journey Through the Cross

Faith in God didn’t heal any physical illness from Ashley. Instead, it helped her live life with a new sense of optimism and courage. This is just one of the many ways faith and healing are interconnected without necessarily being physical. For God, healing isn’t just physical strength but also about finding inner strength, peace, and purpose.
Gives a Sense of Purpose
Believing in a greater power can inspire people to live more meaningfully and motivate them to recover.
Provides Emotional Support
Resting in faith provides people with a community that fosters compassion, encouragement, and love, which are essential in recovery from or overcoming dire times.
Teaches Hope and Resilience
Faith encourages perseverance regardless of situations. Trusting in God and His process—knowing that He will only choose what’s best for people—makes it easier to look at the future optimistically. It instills in anyone the self-belief to overcome obstacles.
Instills Acceptance
One of the best ways to heal is to let go of any blame or resentment in whatever they’re experiencing. When people learn to accept that people undergo different things, it becomes easy to go through the path of recovery.
Beyond Recovery: Faith as a Lifelong Healer
With the deep connection between faith and healing, the former easily becomes a tool for lifelong healing by fostering resilience and hope. By trusting in something bigger, faith helps people find a more profound meaning in life’s challenges, which prompts easier coping and moving on. Trusting God may not necessarily lead to physical healing, but it will impact one’s life in more ways than one can imagine.
It’s not only the body that needs to recover. People have different parts in their lives that need healing, and having faith in God is one way to slowly but surely become whole and strong again.
