My Journey Through the Cross book by Ashley D. Wille is a moving account of her spiritual development and quest for a closer bond with God. Wille describes how she overcame erroneous thought patterns to enter a deeper relationship with God through her own experiences and internal conflicts. Anyone looking for insights on faith to live a life free from shame and guilt and to walk in spiritual freedom can learn from her story.
Insights on Faith: What Is God’s Will?
In a manner, God’s will is something that will always come to pass regardless of the circumstances. Some refer to this as God’s sovereign will. When God says something will occur, it happens. Jesus died on the cross to atone for the sins of the world, and no one could have prevented it. That was God’s will, and it would happen regardless of the circumstances.
Because we cannot undo God’s ultimate plans, we can find solace in His sovereign will when we make important decisions. You can keep in mind God’s unchanging will throughout uncertain times: nothing can ever separate you from His love once you are adopted as His child.
In addition, God has given His people a lot of instructions, but He also gives them the option of following or disobeying them. The Bible is filled with numerous concrete examples of God’s will. You can seek God’s will in each circumstance by comprehending His character through His words and explicit commandments, even though there aren’t particular commands for every scenario that could arise in your life.
A Lifetime Pursuit of Fulfillment
Ashley Wille had an unquenchable desire from a young age that no amount of material success could satisfy. Even after reaching significant academic and professional milestones, such as receiving a law degree in 1990, she discovered that genuine, long-lasting fulfillment was still elusive. This unquenchable emptiness drove her to look for a greater sense of meaning and purpose outside of social accomplishments.
Her lifetime pursuit of fulfillment and her personal life, which was characterized by difficulties in marriage and motherhood, served as a testing ground for her spiritual development, where she developed many insights on faith. She was forced by these encounters to examine her views and look for a deeper relationship with God. Wille realized through reflection and faith that a lot of her ideas about God were false, influenced by misunderstandings and experiences from the past.
Accepting the Cross as a Transformational Symbol

The cross is a major symbol in Wille’s story, serving as a metaphor for both spiritual rebirth and personal struggles, in addition to being a religious symbol. She writes that her path was filled with “sweet surprises, difficult climbs, and excruciating valleys,” highlighting how the Master’s touch molded her during these events.
Through overcoming her personal “crosses,” Wille learned that embracing vulnerability and facing pain were crucial stages on the path to spiritual liberation and recovery. This viewpoint inspires readers to see their difficulties as chances for personal development and a stronger faith rather than as burdens.
Sifting Through Illusions
Realizing that many of Wille’s views about God were false was a pivotal moment in her journey. She openly discusses how her fear and estrangement from God resulted from superimposing early recollections of her earthly parent onto her conception of the Heavenly parent. She was able to encounter God’s actual nature—one of love, grace, and intimacy—after admitting and dispelling these myths.
This unlearning and relearning process serves as a potent reminder that one’s past might skew one’s spiritual sense. Wille’s openness shows that healing, making better insights on faith, and a fresh connection to God are achievable, which gives hope to people who might feel cut off from God because of prior traumas.

How Can We Find God?
Both seekers and pagans can relate to the vast majority of people who are looking for God. People have engaged in this religious endeavor since the beginning of time. I’ve read about people who have dedicated their entire lives to seeking God, sometimes moving around, studying under different gurus, and wasting their fortunes in the process. Seeking God is like an orphan wondering who his parents are, what they are like, and whether he would be welcomed or dismissed as unwanted baggage if he discovered them.
Seekers may have the utmost sincerity and authenticity in their quest to create insights on faith and find peace amongst the chaos of our world, yet their lives are a never-ending source of frustration, seeking without finding, chasing without achieving a goal.
In the book that bears his name, God told His people through Jeremiah, “When you seek me with all your heart, you will seek me and find me” (Jeremiah 29:13). A thief on the cross exclaimed, “Remember me when you come into your kingdom!” because he thought the person hanging between him and another criminal was God’s Son. Jesus answered, “You will be in Paradise with me today! It just took him a few minutes to find God.
Maybe it’s time to connect and stop looking. When a person reaches the end of their life and surrenders to the Almighty, God hears their heart’s plea and responds. While searching may be the primary focus for others, discovering God gave me joy and fulfillment that searching could never provide. Want to begin a deeper relationship with God?
