Have you ever felt tired? Not just an exhaustion of the body, but a deep tiredness beset in the soul. You might be searching for something more in your walk with the Lord, yet feel stuck or worn out.

Learning how to pray when you feel lost can be the very first step toward healing. You do not need fancy words or perfect posture; just simply open your heart and tell God exactly how you feel.

That simple act starts the journey of finding rest while finding God.

Ashley D. Wille writes in My Journey Through the Cross:

I knew I could not go another day without finding the answers to life. All alone in my little room, crouched in despair, I cried out beyond this world for the Almighty.

That cry changed everything, and your cry can too.

Rest is not escaping your problems, but handing them over them to the One who already solved the biggest one on the cross.

What Is Finding Stillness in Prayer?

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”Psalm 46:10

Finding stillness in prayer is not worship in a silent house or hours of free time. Stillness must happen inside your heart first, and you can find this surrounded by noisy children, a ringing phone, and a long to-do list.

Imagine the eye of the storm, where all about it is raging, but the center is quiet. Your spirit can remain calm amidst the noise of the world.

Wille learned this lesson while her young daughter brushed her hair with a broken brush and splashed water on her head. Instead of losing control, she found herself having fun, enjoying the moment.

Therefore, stillness in prayer means stopping the fight within you and stopping your attempts to fix everything yourself.

Stop rehearsing your worries and just breathe and whisper Jesus’ name.

Let the noise around you fade while your soul leans into His presence, for even thirty seconds of honest stillness can reset your entire day.

Seeking Spiritual Peace When Life Is Hard

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.John 14:27

Wille admits she spent years “floating through life feeling like an outsider.” Though she had nice things and a good family, her soul whispered that this world was not her home.

Many Christians feel that same ache despite the goodness around them.

True peace, though, only comes when you stop chasing perfect circumstances. Wille learned that God “transferred my security in orderly circumstances to security in Him alone.

That transfer takes time, but it also takes pain.

Every time you choose to trust God instead of panic, you build a deeper rest. Seeking spiritual peace means letting go of control and freeing yourself from burdens that are beyond your control: when you admit you cannot fully manage your marriage, your children, or your future.

When you find spiritual peace, you let God be God.

That surrender feels scary at first. Yet it will lead you to a peace no disaster can overturn.

Christian Mindfulness Practices for the Weary Soul

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.Philippians 4:6

Christian mindfulness is not all about emptying your mind: it is about filling your mind with Christ.

Wille shares how she learned to focus on God “throughout the day and night, while I taught the girls, graded papers, ran errands, waited on the phone or in traffic, did the laundry, cooked meals, rested, nursed, showered or awakened at night.”

This might sound exhausting to you, but she found it wonderfully restful, and you can try it out with one simple practice, which is to pick one Bible verse and repeat it softly while you work. Another method is to turn on worship music even when you do not feel like singing, thanking God for small things like a green light or a found sock.

Wille describes God helping her locate a lost sock just before her mother arrived. These tiny moments train your brain to notice God everywhere–and He is everywhere as much as He needs to be.

That is Christian mindfulness, rewiring your tired mind toward hope.

Finding Rest While Finding God Every Day

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.Matthew 11:29

Finding rest while finding God isn’t a one-time event; it is a choice that is made day to day. So, start your morning by telling God that you’re not in control, and He IS, for that is the complete and utter truth of things.

Wille learned to laugh at herself when she once prayed, “I give You this day,” with the Lord reminding her that she could not give what she did not own because every day already belongs to Him.

  • When stress rises, pause for ten seconds, and breathe in slowly, whispering to Jesus that you trust Him.
  • When you feel guilty about a struggle, remind yourself that the Bible says there is no condemnation for those in Christ.
  • When you feel rushed, remember that God is never in a hurry.

“If God is never in a hurry, and He is my God, and I am here to do His will, why should I ever be in a hurry?”

Let that question settle in your heart. Then go slow, laugh more, and sing badly to worship songs. Let the dishes wait: your soul matters more than your schedule.
